James Wright, a Democrat running for State Representative of the 188th Legislative District, is a true Philly native. He has deep roots in the West and Southwest Philadelphia community. His family has lived in the area for over 60 years. Not only is James a Philadelphian, he is an actively engaged community member and Community and Economic Development Professional with over 15 years of experience. James is running for office because he believes in the power of community and the power of homegrown leadership. And, he has championed these ideals throughout his career.
Now, he’s stepping up to work with you to make our community better for everyone in the 188th district. James knows that creating transformational change cannot be done by pushing an agenda that is not developed by the people.
We need a leader who is not afraid to listen to the people and advocate on their behalf to get them the resources they need.
We need a leader who is going to fight for us in Harrisburg based on the agenda that we set as a community, inclusive of all parts of the district.
We need a leader who has a proven record of putting the people first and collaborating with the community.
The agenda for change should be created BY the community, FOR the community. Too many voices in our district have been overshadowed and minimized by fast-paced changes often coming from outside forces. Some politicians have employed a cookie-cutter approach based on national agendas that dominate over local concerns and priorities. James believes our focus should be on creating community-based solutions that affect your everyday life - looking at where we live, work and play. This does not mean starting from scratch. We need new support for existing leaders, help to grow new leadership, and strategies that work.
Over the past two years, we have seen a decrease in quality affordable housing, an increase in crime, and a growing sense of hopelessness among people. And, that is why James Wright is running for State Representative of the 188th district. He has experience in using community driven strategies to improve neighborhoods and now James wants to work for you, for us.
“Supporting and reinvigorating communities is my life. Growing up in Southwest Philadelphia, I learned at a young age the benefit of putting the community first to improve the quality of life for low-income people in my neighborhood. I credit my passion and drive to my mother - a single parent who raised 3 kids, worked full-time, and volunteered to improve the lives of our neighbors. She taught me the importance of community, how to advocate, and how to collaborate.
I plan to put the lessons I’ve learned and my community building experience to work as your next State Representative. I am for the people. For the community. For you.”
